RCSI hosts annual Ballroom of Romance for senior citizens

More than 300 senior citizens visited RCSI (Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland) on the evening of Thursday 17th July for the Ballroom of Romance. This is the fourth year that RCSI has hosted this annual entertainment evening of dinner, music and dancing held for senior citizens living in the catchment area of the College.

The event is organised by Ms. Maria Kelly, REACH RCSI Programme Manager, in partnership with Dublin City Council South East Area Community Development team.

Music on the night was provided by the Garda Band. Entertainment included a surprise ‘flash mob dance performance from the senior citizens.

REACH RCSI works in partnership with primary and post primary schools, youth and community groups together with the local community on the design and delivery of educational initiatives including grinds clubs, science workshops, sports & health programmes and an education information service.

Founded in 1784, RCSIs mission is to develop healthcare leaders who make a difference worldwide. RCSI is a not-for-profit health sciences organisation which focuses on education and research to drive positive change in all areas of human health worldwide. RCSI is headquartered in Dublin and is a recognised College of the National University of Ireland. In 2010, RCSI was granted independent degree awarding status by the State, which enables the College to award degrees alongside its traditional powers to award licentiates.
